Job Description

Seeking an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students during the 25/26 school year in Oakland, CA. This in-person contract position offers an opportunity to impart specialized skills that enhance the independence and safety of students with visual impairments.


Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments.
  • Developing personalized mobility plans tailored to each student's unique needs.
  • Providing direct instruction on safe travel techniques, use of mobility aids, and environmental adaptation.
  • Collaborating with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to support student progress.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation of student outcomes.
Qualifications:
  • Certification or specialized training as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
  • Experience working with students in school settings, particularly those with visual impairments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, families, and school staff.
  • Knowledge of mobility tools and adaptive techniques to promote independence.
  • Ability to work 20+ hours per week during the school year in an in-person capacity.

Location: Oakland, CA - work is entirely onsite within the school environment.
