Director of Education Services

Arc Broward is looking for a Director of Education Services (DES) to lead program development, design, and oversight of private school education and related services for children with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities.

The Director is expected to provide positive and supportive leadership the promotes and reinforces a culture that values, supports, and appreciates team members and aligns with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. The DES is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of person-centered services and support to children and families.

The Director is responsible for the program development, design and oversight to ensure high-quality, person-centered academic and enrichment services that are based on best practice, promising practice, and evidence-based practices and are tailored to meet the needs of students with Autism, Developmental Disabilities, and other Unique Abilities.

Essential Job Functions/Duties

  • Educational Leadership & Program Oversight: Provide vision and leadership for exceptional education services aligned with state standards and individualized student needs; Oversee development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or service plans; Ensure integration of behavior analysis services (including ABA-based programming), Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), Speech-Language Pathology (SLP); Oversee academic instruction across core subjects (literacy, mathematics, science, social studies) and specials programming (e.g., art, music, physical education, technology, social skills); Promote inclusive, evidence-based instructional practices and differentiated learning strategies; Ensure data-driven instructional decision-making and progress monitoring. Select, implement, and evaluate research-based curriculum aligned with state standards and developmental frameworks; Ensure curriculum modifications and accommodations are embedded for diverse learners; Support multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS); Oversee assessment systems, benchmark testing, and student progress reporting.
  • Personnel Management: Make recommendations for hiring, conduct progressive coaching sessions, conduct performance evaluations and professional growth plans; Lead instructional coaching and professional development initiatives; Ensure proper staff credentialing and licensure; Maintain staffing ratios appropriate for student needs; Foster a collaborative, interdisciplinary team culture.
  • Fiscal Management: Assist in developing program budgets; Ensure fiscal responsibility and management by monitoring program budgets; Oversee allocation of resources, instructional materials, and therapy services; Monitor revenue and expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
  • Operations & Facilities: Oversee daily educational operations and scheduling; oversee coordination of therapy schedules within academic programming; Ensure classrooms and therapy spaces meet safety and accessibility standards; Collaborate with operations staff regarding facilities maintenance.
  • Regulatory Compliance, Licensing & Accreditation: Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing private special education programs; Maintain program adherence to applicable Department of Education and Department of Health standards; Oversee school licensing requirements; Lead accreditation processes; Ensure documentation and recordkeeping meets legal standards
  • Student Enrollment & Records: Participate in student intake, evaluation review, and placement decisions; Collaborate with admissions on enrollment planning and capacity management; Oversee maintenance of secure and accurate student records; Ensure appropriate documentation of services and progress data.
  • Outcomes & Quality Assurance: Establish measurable student outcome metrics across academic, behavioral, communication, motor, and social domains; Monitor fidelity of behavior intervention plans and therapy implementation; Conduct internal audits of instructional and clinical programs; Analyze school-wide performance data to drive continuous improvement; Prepare reports for leadership and governing board.
  • Safety & Emergency Response: Responsibly ensure that children and team members are safe by monitoring and responding to safety issues; practicing appropriate emergency medical and behavioral procedures; responding to emergencies; promoting children’s rights regarding health and safety; and participating in Emergency Standard Response Protocol preparedness, trainings, and drills; Ensure staff are trained in prevention, de-escalation, behavior safety, and crisis intervention procedures (PCM); Oversee crisis and emergency interventions.
  • Family Engagement & Support: Support the development and maintenance of child/family support networks through outreach to family members, community members, and professionals; Provide parent education workshops and resources; Support family networking opportunities and community-building initiatives; Connect families with external support services and community agencies; Promote transparent and compassionate communication practices.
  • Compliance: Adequately understand and consistently implement current federal, state and local rules and regulations, agency policies and procedures; and protection of consumer rights in compliance with F.S. Chapter 393 Client Bill of Rights.

Requirements:

  • Minimum master’s degree in educational leadership or closely related field with degree or advanced coursework in Special Education or closely related field
  • Professional Teaching Certification in Educational Leadership, Special Education, or a related field
  • Strong instructional leadership with minimum 5–7 years’ experience in special education leadership
  • Comprehensive knowledge about autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities with 3-5 years' experience working with students with autism and developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of evidence-based behavioral and instructional practices
  • Ability to work effectively managing multiple tasks. Excellent organizational, project management, interpersonal and communication skills. Attention to detail oriented. Values data driven activities.
  • Experience managing complex contracts with governmental funders, foundations, and other stakeholders including performance/outcomes management.
  • Experience leading large, diverse teams and coaching team members.
