Job Description

A school in San Jose, CA is seeking an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) for the 25/26 school year. This contract position offers an in-person opportunity to support students with visual impairments by enhancing their independence and mobility within the school environment.


Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility training plans tailored to each student's needs.
• Conduct assessments to evaluate students' travel skills and environmental awareness.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other support staff to integrate mobility strategies across educational settings.
• Provide direct, in-person instruction and guidance to students to build safe, effective travel skills.
• Monitor progress and adjust strategies to ensure successful outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of services provided.

Required Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
• Proven experience working with students with visual impairments in educational settings.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to in-person service delivery.
• Availability to work 20+ hours per week throughout the academic year.
