Description of Work The Environmental Program Consultant position manages the Registered Environmental Consultant (REC) Program within the Inactive Hazardous Sites Branch. This position is responsible for the function and success of the program by managing staff workloads, managing and training RECs who participate in the program, implementing the governing REC Program rules, and ensuring all technical audits and enforcement actions are performed according to Division policy, consistently and fairly. This position also serves as a technical expert on complex scientific and technical issues associated with hazardous waste sites and risk-based remediation according to G.S. 130A-310.65-77. Key Responsibilities Manages the administrative functions and the database of sites and RECs within the REC Program. Plans and participates in training of consultants on site cleanups conducted according to the REC Program rules. Ensures project audits are completed routinely according to the REC Program rules, and enforcement actions are consistent and comply with Division policy. Serves as a technical expert on assessment and remediation of contamination sites and risk-based remediation. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences *This is an anticipated vacancy. This is accomplished through the Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste, Superfund and Underground Storage Tank Sections, and the Brownfields Redevelopment Section.
