Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

May work irregular shifts.

Under supervision at the California Exposition and State Fair, Culinary Interns assist with the organization and function of the California State Fair California Kitchen Demonstration & Exhibit Program.

Working Conditions

Incumbent will follow all current state and county safety guidelines.  Some positions may require working outdoors, standing/sitting for long periods of time, walking or carrying items (i.e. tables, chairs, boxes of supplies) with or without assistance.

  • Periodic Overtime
  • Prolonged periods of bending, sitting and standing
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures, airborne dust, fumes, vapors, chemicals, medical waste and blood borne pathogens.

Special Requirements

  • Must complete fingerprints through LiveScan.
  • Participation in DMV Pull Notice Program.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or 17 years of age and graduated from high school to be considered.
  • Additional online training may be required prior to employment.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Experience working/volunteering at a fair, festival or public event.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry, sit, reach, bend and stand for extended periods of time
  • Experience with safe practices in food handling
  • Applicable education and work experience in food, agriculture and/or culinary arts
  • The ability to work in a fast paced environment with changing priorities and multi-task
  • Outstanding customer service skills, exhibit tact and diplomacy in verbal and written communications
  • Exceptional attendance, punctuality, and dependability, and possess a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and irregular shifts
