Position Summary
The Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) provides independent clinical therapy services to children, adolescents, and families served under the Fairfax–Falls Church Children’s Services Act (CSA). The LMFT delivers family-centered, systems-based, trauma-informed, and evidence-based interventions in community-based settings including client homes, schools, and other approved locations. Services are provided in alignment with CSA System of Care Practice Standards and Virginia licensure requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment & Treatment
-Provide individual, family, and group therapy with a primary focus on family systems, relational dynamics, and child-family functioning.
-Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial and family assessments.
-Develop, implement, and update treatment plans consistent with CSA Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), IEPs (when applicable), court referrals, and agency requirements.
-Deliver evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions (e.g., Family Systems Therapy, CBT, TF-CBT, Structural Family Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy).
-Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and stabilization services as required.
Documentation & Compliance
-Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation including assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries, and required CSA reports.
-Ensure documentation meets Fairfax–Falls Church CSA timelines and standards.
-Participate in utilization reviews, audits, and quality assurance activities.
Collaboration & Care Coordination
-Collaborate with CSA case managers, Family Resource Teams, schools, courts, and other child-serving agencies.
-Participate in team-based planning meetings, family partnership meetings, and multidisciplinary reviews.
-Communicate clinical findings and recommendations while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and CSA requirements.
Professional & Ethical Practice
-Practice independently within the scope of Virginia LMFT licensure.
-Adhere to ethical standards of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and Virginia regulations.
-Participate in supervision, peer consultation, and continuing education activities.
Required Qualifications
-Active, unrestricted Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
-Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or a related field from an accredited institution.
-Experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, and families.
-Knowledge of trauma-informed care, family systems theory, and evidence-based interventions.
-Ability to work independently in community-based and mobile service settings.
-Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
-Prior experience working within CSA-funded programs or similar child-serving systems.
-Experience delivering in-home, school-based, or community-based services.
-Training or certification in evidence-based practices such as TF-CBT, CBT, PCIT, FFT, or other family-focused models.
-Bilingual or multilingual capabilities.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
-Services are delivered in client homes, schools, and community settings.
-Position requires travel throughout Fairfax County and surrounding areas.
-Ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform routine clinical and administrative duties.
