Role Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented EHS Specialist who is eager to grow their career in a high‑hazard, fast‑paced industrial environment. This role supports both the Safety Manager and Environmental Manager while taking ownership of key EHS processes, including corrective action tracking, safety walks, SDS management, and worker’s compensation coordination. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and ready to play a visible, hands‑on role in driving safety culture improvement across a 24/7 precious‑metal refining and chemical production facility. The EHS Specialist will support the implementation, execution, and continuous improvement of EHS programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while helping embed safety and environmental responsibility into the company culture.

Key Responsibilities:

EHS Program Support & Compliance

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of EHS programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable state and local regulations.
  • Assist in developing and conducting EHS training for plant personnel across all shifts.
  • Maintain and submit required EHS records, reports, permits, and licenses.
  • Manage and update the facility’s Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and support chemical approval processes.
  • Represent the company professionally during interactions with regulatory agencies, as directed.
  • Collect data used for air emissions inventories and other environmental reporting programs.
  • Assist with waste handling, chemical management, and environmental compliance activities as assigned.

Daily Safety Operations

  • Lead daily operational activities related to near miss and Opportunity for Improvement (OFI) reporting, including tracking corrective actions through closure.
  • Conduct regular safety walks across all shifts to observe work practices, identify hazards, and coach employees on improvements.
  • Ensure required emergency equipment inspections (eyewash stations, showers, fire extinguishers, etc.) are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Provide clear guidance on safe work practices while reinforcing that operations own safe execution.
  • Maintain a strong, approachable presence on the floor to build trust and credibility with long tenured employees.
  • Coordinate worker’s compensation documentation and communication with HR and supervisors.
  • Support injury response, reporting, and return‑to‑work processes while reinforcing operational accountability.

Incident Investigation & Continuous Improvement

  • Own and manage the Corrective Action process, ensuring actions from incidents, audits, and safety walks are assigned appropriately and completed on time.
  • Lead weekly Corrective Action Review meetings with supervisors and managers.
  • Facilitate problem‑solving discussions while ensuring operational teams maintain responsibility for implementing solutions.
  • Identify trends and escalate recurring issues to drive continuous improvement.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Studies, or related fields, recent graduates are encouraged to apply
  • 0–3 years of experience in an EHS, manufacturing, laboratory, or industrial setting preferred
  • Strong internship experience highly desired.
  • Basic understanding of OSHA and EPA regulations; hands‑on experience is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity or coursework exposure to hazardous materials, waste handling, industrial safety, ergonomics, workplace injuries, and environmental compliance.
  • Interest in supporting EHS programs related to regulatory compliance, risk management, audits, and employee training.
  • Exposure to ISO management systems (through work, internships, or coursework) is a plus.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification is a plus, or willingness to obtain after hire.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, straightforward reports.
  • Self‑motivated, organized, and eager to learn in a fast‑paced, 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Comfortable using computers and common software tools; proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
