Position Summary

The ELL/LEP Instructor is responsible for the overall coordination of the center’s English language learner (ELL) program and services and for providing instruction to students with limited English proficiency (LEP).

Essential Functions

  1. Develop lesson plans and learning materials to provide instruction and training to LEP students aimed at enabling them to demonstrate English proficiency.
  2. Provide recommendations on curriculum changes, educational software, and online tools to ensure the center employs the latest evidence-based strategies for ELL programming.
  3. Incorporate lessons and themes that address the components of language (sounds, vocabulary, syntax) to develop English language proficiency and structure lessons to be compliant with contextual learning standards.
  4. Collaborate with academic and career technical training (CTT) instructors to develop strategies for working with LEP students in career technical training shops and classrooms.
  5. Work cooperatively with program staff to ensure curriculum is aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education and state English Language Proficiency Standards.
  6. Ensure documented accommodations are provided to students in collaboration with the Disability Coordinator.
  7. Maintain discipline and manage the learning environment to ensure quality and safety conducive to instruction and learning.
  8. Maintain strict accountability of students during the training day, take attendance in real time in the Center Information System (CIS) each class period, and assist students to report to the appropriate class when needed.
  9. Maintain strict compliance with data integrity standards in administering student tests, recording attainments, and documenting training hours.
  10. Maintain coursework documentation supporting attainment of learning gains and other attainments in academic folders.
  11. Participate on the career management team (CMT) to evaluate student progress, provide regular feedback on goals, achievements, and career success skills, and project students for completion.
  12. Support the Zero Tolerance policy and center Behavior Management Plan to promote a safe environment and cooperate with center leadership to record student incidents in the appropriate systems.
  13. Proactively rewards students for achievements and positive behavior and enter positive incident reports in CIS.
  14. Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance student learning and employability.
  15. Monitor supplies, equipment and instructional materials and submits work orders, purchase orders and requests to management in a timely manner.
  16. Participate in the student scheduling process and recommend adjustments to best meet student needs
  17. Participate in department meetings and all mandated PRH and Strategix training.
  18. Maintain accountability of staff, students, and property and adhere to safety practices.
  19. Promote a harassment-free environment.
  20. Utilize information systems and handle student data in strict adherence to Job Corps and Strategix policies to protect student’s personally identifiable information (PII) and reduce network security threats.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience Minimum

Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution and two years of teaching experience. Bilingual in English and Spanish. State teaching certification. (Waivers may be considered for otherwise qualified individuals, but certification must be pursued in a reasonable timeframe). Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language and rules of composition and grammar. Ability to practice differentiated instruction. Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills. Information technology proficiency including MS Office.

Preferred

TESOL certification, four years of total teaching experience with at least two years providing ELL services and previous Job Corps experience or experience working with high school and/or adult students.
