Electrical Estimator

Our client is a well-established mid-sized commercial electrical contractor based in Milford, CT, with over 20 years of experience serving commercial, institutional, and industrial clients. Their work spans multi-residential housing, commercial and industrial facilities, healthcare, educational facilities, retail, and more.

We are seeking an Electrical Estimator who will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for commercial, industrial, and municipal electrical construction projects. This role reviews drawings and specifications, performs detailed quantity takeoffs, develops labor and material projections, and builds complete cost proposals. The ideal candidate understands commercial electrical systems, identifies scope gaps and risk factors, and works closely with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to deliver strong bids while protecting company margins.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare complete cost estimates for commercial and industrial electrical construction projects
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and project documents
  • Analyze bid documents, addenda, and contract requirements
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Estimate electrical systems including distribution equipment, switchgear, panelboards, lighting, and fire alarm systems
  • Develop labor projections based on realistic productivity assumptions
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, and potential risk factors within project documents
  • Prepare proposal summaries, bid clarifications, and final bid documentation
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and project site walks when required
  • Assist with project turnover to operations teams after project award
  • Support change order pricing and cost analysis during project execution

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience estimating commercial electrical construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and commercial electrical systems
  • Experience with public bid and negotiated construction work
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency with estimating software (McCormick Systems would be a huge plus) and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of local labor and material pricing in the construction market preferred
  • Field experience as an electrician or project manager is a plus
