Responsibilities

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Greater El Monte Community Hospital. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support Greater El Monte Community Hospital's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).

1. Supervises and coordinates the work of unlicensed and licensed staff including charge nurses in the unit.
2. Responsible for effective management of operational and staffing matters, problem solving, training, supplies and equipment requisites, performance management, conflict resolution, coaching/disciplinary actions, and hiring/retention of staff.
3. Manages quality and effectiveness of care given by staff.
4. Responsible for accurate and timely scheduling of surgical procedures.
5. Responsible for ensuring all equipment and supplies are complete and functioning properly before each surgical procedure.
6. Ensures that temperature and humidity of each surgical room meet regulatory requirements at all times, before, during, and after procedures.
7. Ensures sterile processing meets regulatory standards.
8. Advises the CNO of nursing and administrative issues of the unit.
9. Ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environmental procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements.
10. Utilizes efficient managerial skills and critical thinking in order to optimize expense control.
11. Ensures development of subordinates and succession planning.
12. Recognizes consequences of decisions to budget.
13. Responsible for positive staff morale, management, and low turnover.
14. Prioritizes projects and uses time management to maximize efficiencies.

16. Clearly identifies the customer(s) they serve and establishes customer service initiatives to ensure ultimate customer service is provided in order to achieve targeted outcomes.
17. Works cooperatively/collaboratively with physicians to establish and maintain their practice, clinical requirements, and effectively manage the physician practice needs.
18. Promotes communication with attending physicians and house staff to meet specific needs of the patient.
19. Works collaboratively with Human Resources to effectively handle administrative proceedings.
20. Actively engages in self-improvement and training activities for subordinates to ensure the strategic goals and objectives are met.
21. Demonstrates an understanding of organizational processes and procedures and adheres to the approved process. Ensures subordinates follow approved processes and procedures.
22. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Three years operating room nursing experience to include clinical skills and managerial/leadership functions
• Current California RN license, Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) Certification preferred, BLS, ACLS certified by the American Heart Association, MAB
• Bachelors in Nursing required, Masters in Nursing preferred.
• Knowledge of program development, fiscal management skills, and familiarity with regulatory and accrediting agency standards preferred
