The Opportunity

As a Bookkeeper, you will be a key player in enabling Kelly+Partners' next phase of growth. The successful applicant will become an integral part of the broader team and will be exposed to a variety of clients and the opportunity to learn in a public practice environment. This role offers hands-on experience with diverse client industries and the chance to develop expertise in multiple accounting systems.

Key Responsibilities

Client & Firm Support
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, ensuring timely responses, clear communication, and professional follow-through.
  • Manage intake of client documents, including organizing, tracking, and maintaining digital files across multiple clients and engagements.
  • Coordinate deadlines, deliverables, and workflow for tax, payroll, and compliance projects.
  • Assist with onboarding new clients, including gathering required information, setting up internal systems, and ensuring compliance documentation is complete.
Tax & Compliance Support
  • Track Sales & Use Tax filing deadlines and ensure all required forms and extensions are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of filing requirements across multiple states and agencies.
Payroll & Regulatory Support
  • Assist with payroll processing tasks such as gathering client payroll data, verifying information, and preparing payroll tax filings.
  • Prepare and submit payroll-related forms (e.g., quarterly and annual payroll tax returns, W-2s, 1099s).
  • Monitor agency notices (IRS, state tax boards, EDD, etc.) and coordinate responses or follow-up with the CPA team.
  • Support clients with multi-state payroll compliance, registration, and reporting.
Administrative & Operational Duties
  • Manage calendars, deadlines, and internal task lists for multiple team members.
  • Prepare client correspondence, summaries, and documentation packages.
  • Assist with internal quality control by reviewing documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Support the firm during peak seasons by helping with workflow coordination, client reminders, and document tracking.
About You
  • Experience working in a CPA firm, bookkeeping practice, or similar professional services environment preferred.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state tax forms, payroll processes, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort interacting with clients across various industries.
  • High level of accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
  • Proficiency with accounting/tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, Paychex, Gusto, Karbon, etc.) is a plus
